La cave
01:05
|
|||
Quand je suis sorti de ma cabane
Y'avait deux gars qui m'attendaient
Avec une pelle pis un fanal
Ils m'ont dit "Viens, tu vas creuser
On aimerait ça récupérer

The Cellar
When I stepped out of my cabin
There were two guys waiting for me
With a shovel and a lantern
They said, “Come, you’re gonna dig.
We wanna find what we left in your cellar.”
The tall one who didn’t say a word was intimidating
Fists like hams and no front teeth
I followed them out back
To the diagonal door
That leads to the cellar with a dirt floor
When they lit it up
I saw that they’d been through there
There were holes all over
Without thinking too much
I took the shovel
I hit the fat one in the knees
And the other on the back of the neck

Il y a un pianiste au fond de la pièce
Qui fait chanter son instrument
J'écoute la plainte des clés
Noires et blanches
L'air a quelque chose de séduisant
Il m'enveloppe le cou
Comme un serpent
Le souffle quitte mes poumons
Langoureusement
J'espère me rendre chez moi
Avant de me noyer
Là, j'ai fermé la porte à clé
J'ai monté toute une barricade
À l'aide d'oreillers
J'attends que le soleil soit levé
Avant de sortir
Mes craintes sont déjà moins concrètes
Elles finissent par se dissiper
Quand j'ouvre la fenêtre
Qui était restée fermée
Enfin, je respire
Si, à 9h01, tu réponds pas,
Je prendrai deux comprimés
Pour me calmer
Je vais te laisser quelques messages
Pour entendre ta voix
En attendant que tu me rappelles
J'ai besoin de ton aide...
Faudrait que tu penses à moi
Même si ça fait déjà deux mois
Qu'on partage plus un toit

Morning Sickness (The Pianist)
There’s a pianist at the other end of the room
Who’s making his instrument sing
I’m listening to the black and white keys moan
There’s something seductive about the melody
It wraps itself around my neck like a snake
The air leaves my lungs languorously
I step out into the street
To clear my head of all the words that I’ve kept
In a faded black notebook
I hope to make it home before I drown
Now, I’ve locked the door
I’ve set up a whole barricade with some pillows
I’m waiting for the sun to rise
Before I come out again
My fears are already less concrete
They ended up dispersing
When I opened the window that had remained closed
Finally, I can breathe
But if, at 9:01, you don’t answer
I’m going to take two pills to calm myself down
I’ll leave you a few messages so that I can hear your voice
While I wait for you to call me back
I need your help
You should be thinking of me
Even though it’s already been two months since we shared a roof

Mononcle

« Écoute-moi ben, mononcle
« Viens pas me niaiser, ti-gars
Depuis qu’elle t’as laissé là
Tu me sors toujours le même refrain
“ Une petite ligne, ça remonte le moral. ”
« On a chacun nos forces
Mais nos faiblesses se ressemblent
Comme deux tonneaux de goudron
On est suspendu par-dessus
T’as pas d’affaire à hausser le ton. »

Uncle
“Listen up, uncle
Lend me your good ear
I need to get something off my chest
Before things get any worse
When you left the other night
You slammed the back door
Even though, when you returned,
You’d calmed down
I found it strange to see
That my lack of funds
Had gotten you so upset
I don’t see what the big deal is
If I don’t have my share of the rent
We can just postdate the cheque for after the first
When I was alone
I found that nothing was easier
Than counting my pennies
With my belt pulled tight
But since you moved in
I can’t make ends meet
So you’ll have to leave
Or we’ll have to find a new apartment”
“Don’t even try, kid
You know why you’re broke
Your nostrils have been frosted
Since she left you
You always give me the same excuse
“A little line makes me feel better.”
You’ve got too many emotions
Running in your veins
But that powder won’t make the pain go away
I know you don’t want to hear this from me, but
When I was young
I had a really hard time
Not running out of cash
Three days after payday
But since I swore off
Those fuckin’ machines
Everything’s changed
I’ve regained control of myself”
“As if!
You buy five scratch’n’wins
At the corner store when your cheque comes in
And what about the contraband cigarettes
You buy from our neighbour?”
“We each have our strengths
But our weaknesses
Are like two barrels of tar
We’re hanging over them
You’ve got no business raising your voice!”

Stronger Man
00:59
|
|||
Oooooh, girl
I will try to be a stronger man
Oooooh, I will do all that I can
But I’m just a man, girl
I’m just a manchild
Y’a la fois où je t’ai dit
Que j’étais pas rémunéré
J’ai mis ma paie en poche
Pour pas avoir à payer
Pis l’autre soir, tu voulais savoir
Si ta jupe a t’allait bien
Mais j’arrive pas a distinguer
Les petits picots de celle
Avec des rayures jaunes
Pis des lignes bleues en transversale
********************************************
There’s the time I told you
That I was working for free
I put my paycheque in my pocket
So I wouldn’t have to pay
And the other night
You wanted to know
If your skirt looked good on you
But I can’t tell the difference
Between the little polka dots
And the one with the yellow stripes
And the blue lines that go across

Orchestral (The Separation)
There’s a little fence between us
And he’s already off playing in the snow
Kids adapt quickly, they say
But I was mostly thinking about myself
Looks like my little man is taking it well
As I headed toward the car
A stinging tightness in my chest
I almost turned back
But I resisted and got a hold of myself
My blurred vision kept me from driving
I went to see my mom
She cleared things up for me
She said, “When you’re alone,
it’s better to get over it than to get upset.”
Contrary to what my dad insists
The best times between us are far from over
We still have our evenings and weekends
I’ll take time off next summer
We’ll go to Disney
As long as it’s yet to happen
It’s got to be done
It’s the bad feeling you get when you’re out of it
Or the guiltless caresses we share
They tighten the screw before we’ve had the chance to breathe
Those big arms and that super sweet nostalgia
It looks like a small city on the horizon
A wax castle in the sunlight
An armoured ivory tower
